Kenya Railways announces departure time extension for Nairobi-Mombasa train

Co-Op post

Kenya Railways has announced the extension of the departure time for the Nairobi-Mombasa Madaraka Express night train following the heavy rains across the country.

In a notice, Kenya Railways said the heavy downpour has caused traffic snarl-ups along Mombasa Road, necessitating the 2-hour time extension to ensure no one is left behind.

As such the night train from Nairobi to Mombasa will depart at midnight instead of the stipulated time of 10:00 pm.

“We wish to notify members of the public that the 10:00 pm night train shall depart at 12:00 a.m. This adjustment is as a result of the heavy rainfall which has affected movement on the roads,” the notice reads.

“In a bid to ensure that no one is left behind, we have extended the departure time in order to give passengers ample time to arrive at the Nairobi Terminus,” it added.

The Madaraka Express Passenger Service offers three types of train service each making two round-trips a day.

The Inter-county train runs in the morning and makes stopovers in Athi River, Emali, Kibwezi, Mtito Andei, Voi, Miasenyi and Mariakani county stations.

The Afternoon Express train makes a stopover at Voi station while the Night train does not make any stops along the way.
