In the spirit of festivity, Kenyan merrymakers will be disappointed at the news of the alleged closure of popular Nairobi club 1824, located along Lang’ata Road.
Pictures circulating on social media reveal a suggested closure of the club, a venue that has been on top of its game for party lovers. Its furniture and club materials were placed outside the compound, indicating a possible end to its operations.
The club is owned by Wilson Nahashon Kanaani, who has been under the watchful eye of the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC). They suspect he attained his wealth fraudulently through kickbacks and bribes.
Nahashon Kanani: Man with 643mn wealth but earning Sh. 55,000 salary
Kanaani worked as a junior Nairobi County government employee with a reported monthly net salary of Sh. 55,000. He came under scrutiny from the EACC due to transactions exceeding Sh. 506 million between January 2016 and October 2022.
These amounts were moved through his and his family members’ bank accounts. Through 1824 Whiskey Bar & Lounge, owned under the businessman’s Seventeen Forty Nine Limited, he reportedly earns Sh. 5.6 million.
In light of ongoing legal proceedings, the court seized two Mercedes Benz vehicles and froze 11 of his bank accounts.
The reason behind the closure of Nairobi’s popular club, 1824 on Lang’ata Road, remains unclear to the public. It is also not clear whether they are permanently vacating the area.
