The schools from Kitui, Makueni, and Machakos counties received new classroom furniture, a library, and other facilities.

“We believe that building a literate generation is an investment towards the future. Over the years we have partnered with over 50 schools and organizations in the lower Eastern region to improve infrastructure in various institutions, transforming the lives of over 30,000 people”, said Joseph Ogutu – Chairman, Safaricom Foundation.

Among the schools that benefited from the latest community projects are Uamini Primary School in Tala, which received a library valued at KES 1.2 million, while Kateke Primary School in Kitui received a fully furnished classroom worth KES 990,000.

Ithemboni Primary School, ACK St. Stephen Kathemboni Secondary School and Kilamba Primary School all received new furniture worth over KES 2.3 million.

The foundation also held a forum with its partners to bolster uptake of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) within local communities in the region.

According to Mr. Ogutu, SDGs aim to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure prosperity for all. And for these goals to be achieved, everyone needs to do their part whether in government, the private sector, civil society, Foundations, NGOs or as individuals.
