The Public Service Commission, in a notice dated 31st May 2022, announced there are 61 available jobs for Kenyan citizens who completed their high school examinations and scored at least Grade D.
The commission has stated that the job will be permanent and pensionable if an applicant meets all requirements for employment. The notice in detail stated that the commission seeks to employ 61 new drivers for the State Department for Social Services under the Ministry of Public Service.
Job Requirements
- All applicants must possess a valid driving license to operate the government vehicles.
- Applicants must have attended St. John Ambulance and obtained a First Aid certificate or The Kenya Institute Highway and Building Technology (KIHBT) for not less than one week.
- The applicants should pass the driver grade III test
- The applicants should pass a driving test issued by the Ministry.
- The applicants should have a minimum of 2 years of experience driving vehicles on Kenyan roads.
- The applicants must present a certificate of good conduct from the Kenya police when applying for the job

Selected candidates by the Ministry will be contacted for the job at the end of the exercise. The ministry warned that all applications are to be made via the portal by June 21, 2022, as no physical papers will be accepted for recruitment.
“Canvassing in any form will lead to automatic disqualification. Successful candidates will be deployed outside Nairobi county in sub-counties and counties where vacancies exist,” reads part of the PSC notice.
Duties and Responsibilities
The notice reads that the duties of an employee are driving the motor vehicle as authorized, carrying out routine checks on the vehicle’s cooling, oil, electrical and brake systems, tire pressure, etc.
The employee will also be responsible for detecting and reporting malfunctioning vehicle systems, maintenance of work tickets for vehicles assigned, ensuring security and safety for the vehicle on and off the road; safety of the passengers and/or goods, and maintaining the cleanliness of the vehicle.
The job positions are permanent and pensionable.
