Murder or suicide? DCI orders second autopsy on Sankok’s son

Murder or suicide? This is the puzzle that has forced Directorate of Criminal Investigations to order a second autopsy on nominated MP David Sankok’s son. Memusi Sankok, the son of the MP, was found dead on Monday, allegedly by suicide.

The new autopsy follows huge inconsistencies surrounding the boy’s death that have cast doubts on the exact cause of his death.

The second autopsy has forced the family to cancel the burial of Memusi Sankok which had been scheduled to take place on Tuesday.

The initial autopsy conducted on Tuesday, May 3, at Longisa Hospital in Bomet revealed that Memusi’s demise was caused by a bullet that entered through his chin and exited through his head.

The boy was suspected to have used his father’s gun to end his life. It was however not clear how he accessed it.

Detectives pursuing the matter did not find any spent cartridge at the scene. This raised queries on whether the scene had been tampered with. Detectives have also been trying to figure out whether a pistol or a shotgun ended Memusi

The family had said that the boy accessed his mother’s bag and took the keys to his parents’ bedroom about 3pm. He then opened a safe in the bedroom where the MP keeps his firearms.

“Though none of the family members recalls hearing a shot, a bar operator near the MP’s home told police that he heard a bang from the direction of the home about 3pm,” a report in the Daily Nation said.

According to preliminary investigations based on recollections by Sankok’s family, the first person to notice that the boy was dead was his younger brother, who notified their elder sister. Rosemary Sankok, 21 then informed their mother.
