President Uhuru Kenyatta has promoted his current and previous body guards. The president has promoted his current aide de camp Timothy Stelu Lekolol from the rank of Colonel to the rank of Brigadier.
The president has also promoted his previous aide de camp Stephen Mbogo Njiru to the position of Kenya Army Commander.
The two promotions were among 21 promotions the president made within the armed forces.
The rank of brigadier that Lekolol will now hold is the fourth highest rank in the military. The rank comes after that of General, Lieutenant General and Major General.
Brigadier Lekolol was appointed as Uhuru’s ADC in 2018. He became the first navy officer to serve in that capacity.
On the other hand, Mbogo who was a Major General will now move to the rank of Lieutenant General, which is the second highest rank in the military.
Mbogo will replace Gen Walter Koipaton who is retiring after the end of his four years tour of duty.
Others who were promoted include Brigadier David Kimaiyo Chemwaina Tarus who was promoted to Major General and appointed the General Officer Commanding Western Command.
Brigadier Juma Shee Mwinyikai was promoted to Major General and appointed General Officer Commanding Eastern Command.
Brigadier Fredrick Leuria was promoted to Major General and appointed Assistant Chief of Defence Forces in charge of Operations, Plans, Doctrine and Training.
Brigadier Mungai Nyaga was appointed Major General and Force Commander East African Community Regional Force for DRC.
Kenya Navy Colonel John Wekesa Khaoya was named as the Brigadier and appointed Chief of Welfare and Compensation, at the Defence Headquarters.

Colonel William Kamoiro was named Brigadier and appointed Commander Second Brigade.
Colonel Ahmed Mohamed Saman was promoted to Brigadier and appointed Commander Special Operations Brigade.
Colonel Joel Muriungi M’Arimi was promoted to Brigadier and appointed Commandant of the Recruits Training School.
Col Joseph Doughlas Mokwena promoted to Brigadier and appointed Chief of System at Defence Headquarters.
