There were signs that Njoki Muchemi’s husband Gary Stanton was not well weeks before he murdered Njoki and her two daughters. Posts from his Facebook shows that he was battling mental illness.
At one point, he stopped taking medications. On November 22, Stanton posted that he would no longer follow his doctor’s prescriptions. He said that this was because they were not helping him.
“Therapists tell me I can work through, but the medication is not working. I hate the way I am feeling inside. Mental health is grabbing a strong hold on me. I hate what I am feeling” he said.

However, it was not immediately clear what type of mental illness he was battling. A few days before he committed the murders and killed himself, Stanton appeared happy and even celebrated his wife’s birthday. “Happy birthday to my wife, the love of my life,” he said.
Njoki Muchemi and her two children were killed by her husband in Louisville, Kentucky, United States. The husband then shot himself dead after killing the three in what has been identified as a case of murder-suicide.
Around 9:30a.m. Saturday, LMPD officers were called to respond to the 4500 block of East Pages Lane on a report of a shooting with multiple victims.
In a statement, LMPD said officers arrived and found Njoki and her daughters and Mr. Stanton dead. “The victims include one adult man, an adult woman, and two juvenile females,” the police said on the murder incident.
According to the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office, Mary and Andrianna were shot multiple times and Brianna was shot once. Mary was shot six days after the family celebrated her birthday.
