They further disclosed that Mr. Kibunja was the best of the recruits in academics during their passing out ceremony in 2017.

At that time, Jackson Kibunja was joining the police force with a Masters degree in Management Science -Public Policy from the Peking University in Beijing, China.

Kibunja is among several other police graduates who graduated in various institutions.

Earlier this year, the National Police Service barred university graduates from applying for recruitment to join the force.

Co-Op post

NPS cited that there were better job opportunities and higher-paying job groups that would suit them better, other than the police.

This came after an uproar by graduate police officers ranked under job group J, complained about receiving Group F salaries, which are lower.

“We are advising those with degrees to wait for other positions to avoid labor issues,” said an NPSC official.

Those allowed to apply for the recruitment exercise are KCSE exam graduates from high school.

“In the adverts placed in various media platforms, we have indicated that we are recruiting police constables with a minimum qualification of D+ in their Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exam and it remains as such because there is a particular job group for the advertised positions,” said the official.
