Brian Kamau, a Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) dropout has finally been reunited with his mother after years of living alone in a bush.

Brian Kamau studied at Nanyuki High School before joining JKUAT. He completed his secondary education in 2014, scoring an A- in his KCSE.

True to the words, bad company corrupts good morals, he joined campus and in his second year, he became a victim of drugs and substance abuse. This forced Kamau to drop out of school.

“My son Kamau has always been a good child. He started changing after joining campus bad company influence. He started abusing and became an addict,” Kamau’s mum, a tailor at Kinoo, remembered.

She recalled falling out with her son the day she found out she was listed by the Credit Reference Bureau (CRB) for loans that she was not aware of. Kamau had used her phone to acquire the loans.

“I recall before we parted ways he had used my phone to get loans KCB, M-Shwari and Fuliza to a total of over Sh. 50,000. I have never paid till today,” she recalled.

Kamau’s father has been living with his son in Nanyuki for the past 2 days. He says he has no problem with anyone willing to offer assistance to his son.

Despite moving on with his new family in a 1 bedroom house, Kamau’s father has been providing him with food and shelter at a friend’s place. He is a watchman, working two shifts; during the day and at night.

Speaking to Facebook personality Derrick Mbugua, Brian Kamau said that he acknowledges that he is an addict and that he would be glad to receive any help, knowing that this is his last chance at reforming.

“Nikipata counsellor, I will appreciate sana. For the last days kutoke nitoke huko sijatumia anything. Najua it’s my last chance. I will not mess up. I have learned the hard way,” he said on a phone call.

Laikipia Senator John Kiama Githinji has offered his help to the young man. He is willing to pay for his school fees, a hostel at Juja and pay for his counseling sessions.

“I am offering to pay school for that young man, Brian Kamau kutoka Nanyuki, get him a house around Juja karibu na shule, will buy him utensils, blankets, a studying table and mattress,” he wrote.

“Will also organize what he can be doing when he is not in school at least apate kitu ya kujisimamia. A- hatuwezi achilia ipotee. Will also organize counseling for him,” said the Laikipia Senator.
