The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) recently released the new teachers’ salaries in the 2021-2025 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
The amount of money the teachers will earn per month is based on their teaching levels. According to the 2021-2025 CBA, primary school entry-level teachers, whose category is Grade B5, are the least paid and will take home between Sh21,756 and Sh27,195 per month.
High School chief principals (Grade D5) are, on the other hand, the highest paid and will pocket between Sh131,380 and Sh157,656 per month.
Moreover, Grade C1 teachers will earn between Sh27,195 and Sh33,994. C1 is the second job group for primary school teachers who have been promoted from Grade B5.
It is also the entry job grade for secondary school teachers with a diploma in secondary education. The pay scales are the same for C1 teachers in primary school and secondary school.

Secondary school teachers under the C2 group with a Bachelor’s degree in education and senior teachers (C3)will earn between Sh34,955 and 43,694 and between Sh43,154 and Sh53,94, respectively.

These salaries shall be paid alongside the new TSC allowances for teachers. Teachers employed by TSC receive various types of allowances, which include house allowance, leave allowance, commuter allowance, and hardship allowances, among others.
The allowances are paid depending on factors such as a workstation, job grade of individual teachers, responsibilities, and others like the type of learners handled.
