Tough competition in the fast food business has forced poultry company, Kenchic, to close down all its restaurants across the country.
The company will now concentrate on scaling up its chicken processing activities for supply to local and international rivals.
A letter by Kenchic operations manager for processing and distributions Philip Carolan said the company has decided to discontinue its brand name Kenchic Inn from the market to concentrate on chicken processing.
“With current fast-food market growing rapidly in Kenya, Kenchic has decided to withdraw its brand name from the market.
Effective March 31, Kenchic Inn brand can no longer be used or any of the Kenchic-associated logos, brands or colours,” he said.
In 2014, the company opened a Sh350-million plant in Thika with capacity to process 600,000 chickens per week.
“Our product will still remain available to all, at the same pricing, and we will continue to supply you as and when required,” said Carolan.
Kentucky Fried Chicken, Dominos, Cold Stone Cremary, Subway and Terriyaki are among international brands that have set up operations in the country in the last two years.
