Latest data from the United States Department of State (DoS) has shown that out of 22,185,619 individuals who applied for the US Green Card 2024 lottery, only 143,000 will receive letters of acceptance to begin their visa application quests.
On a global scale, Kenya has emerged as the highest-ranking winner among the 143,000 selected individuals, with a total of 3,760 Kenyan nationals securing the once-in-a-lifetime, coveted opportunity to migrate to the United States.
The registration period for the US DV-2024 lottery took place from October 5th, 2022, to November 8th, 2022. Fortunate Kenyan winners who have been selected have the opportunity to schedule a visa interview at the US Embassy.
However, despite there being a large number of winners in this lottery, there are even more limited slots for travel. The Department of State indicated that only 55,000 visas were available for issuance.
Some winners may end up getting locked out and missing the permanent residence chance for several reasons once the limited quota is met.
Reasons why some Kenyans will be disqualified
Certain Kenyan applicants may miss out on this opportunity due to errors in their application forms, suspicions of fraud, or inconsistencies in their educational background.
Furthermore, providing false information during the application process will result in immediate disqualification and a denial of the visa.
Winners of the US DV Green Card Lottery are advised to complete their permanent residence application form and undergo a compulsory review at the US Consulate. If successful, permanent residence will be granted by September 30th, 2024.
Those who receive green cards will have the right to work and live in the US. They will also be subject to stipulated laws and pay taxes like an American citizen.

Online registration for the 2025 US Diversity Visa Lottery (DV-2025) is set to open on October 4th, 2023 and close on November 7th. The DoS recommends that interested parties should not wait until the last week of the registration period.
This is due to the potential for website delays due to high traffic. To be eligible to win a green card in Kenya, one must meet certain criteria.
These include having a high school education or providing proof of work experience in an occupation requiring 2 years of training. They could also have 5 years of work experience under their belts.
