Former radio presenter Shaffie Weru has opened up on the big money he used to earn while working as a radio presenter.

According to Weru, every month he used to earn Sh. 1.1 million.

“Just before tax, I made about Sh. 1.1 million, and that was back in the day, naongea 2006. Pesa ilikua. Money back in the day ilikua partying, buying big cars, and then nilipata watoi mapema. And you know my first born is in uni, just calculate, 18 years ago, so nilikua nalipa school fees pia,” said Shaffie.

Shaffie made the revelation when he was hosted by the podcast Mic Cheque podcast.

This was not the first time, though, that Shaffie was talking about his salary. In a previous interview, he hinted that he might have been earning around Sh. 1 million when he said that he was earning more than Members of Parliament.

“I’m among the top 15 highest paid media personalities. I get a lot of money. It’s jackpot money! I can give you a ballpark figure – I do not earn as much as the President, but I get more than MPs,” he had said in a previous interview.

However, after he was fired from Radio Africa’s Homeboyz Radio in March 2021, Shaffie wrote a demand letter which showed that he was being paid about Sh. 600,000.

According to the demand letter that leaked on social media, Radio Africa was paying Shaffie Sh. 682,500 per month for his services at Homeboyz Radio. In the letter, Shaffie had demanded for Sh. 8,190,000 being the salary for 12 months for unfair dismissal.

He also demanded an additional one month’s salary, and a gratuity worth Sh. 12,285,000. The demand letter showed that Shaffie was asking over Sh. 21 million from Radio Africa. His demand letter was followed by a counter demand letter from Radio Africa.
