Vivo Energy which runs the Shell Petrol Station franchise has terminated its association with its Ridgeways retailer following claims that attendants at the petrol station have been stealing ATM card details from customers with the aim of defrauding them.
“We have with immediate effect closed the service station until further notice. We sincerely apologise to all our customers for this unfortunate incident,” Vivo Energy said in a statement. The statement further added that the fuel attendant had been arrested and investigations were on going.

The claims came as messages warning motorists to take extra caution while fueling at Shell petrol stations were widely circulated on social media.
The message read in part: “Please exercise vigilance and care while using your ATM card to pay for fuel. This morning at Shell Petrol Station, Ridgeways, after fueling, I gave the attendant my card to swipe but noticed that he was running the card in a smaller machine that he was holding under the authorized swiping machined.”

Apparently, after the driver reported the matter to the police, he was informed that the fuel attendant was part of a larger syndicate operating within Nairobi.
