Joseph Irungu alias Jowie has been sentenced to death after he was found guilty of the murder of businesswoman Monica Kimani.
In a ruling on Wednesday, March 13, 2024, Lady Justice Grace Nzioka ruled that the 2018 murder of Monica Kimani was “intentional’’ and not a defensive act.
“It was not a defensive act. It was not out of provocation. It was planned, intended and executed… After the commission of the offence, there was an attempt to conceal the evidence.
The crime had serious psychological and physical harm to the victim and the family. The prosecution invited this court to pronounce a death sentence,” Lady Justice Nzioka ruled.
Jacque Maribe acquitted, Jowie found guilty of murdering Monica Kimani
Monica Kimani was murdered in her Kilimani home on the night of 19 September 2018, shortly after arriving from Juba.
She was due to travel to Dubai the following morning, but her lifeless body was found in a bathtub with her throat slit from ear to ear.
Former TV news anchor Jacque Maribe, who was charged alongside Irungu, was, however, acquitted of the murder charge after lack of sufficient evidence.
