The European Business University in Luxembourg is welcoming applicants for their fall intake, with the application window closing on August 15th, 2024.
The institution takes education seriously and views it as non-negotiable for every citizen. In a past briefing, EBU’s President, Dr. James Mulli, didn’t mince words when he said a country’s success is only as strong as the education of its people.
That’s why EBU is bringing high-quality, affordable education to Kenyans, offering courses that match the standards of those at their Luxembourg campus.
“I have come to learn that the truest measure of success that can be guaranteed in a country is education. This is where I have come to understand the importance of impacting people,” he said.
EBU recognizes that financial challenges often hinder individuals from pursuing higher education. In Kenya, lack of funding has been a significant barrier preventing many from accessing university education.
As a result, the highly accredited Luxembourg University is providing scholarship support to Kenyans. Although their programs are usually priced at Sh. 100,000 (€740), they are offering these courses for a much more affordable Sh. 5,500 (€37.50) to help overcome the financial plague many Kenyans face.
There are 37 courses available to choose from, though some may already be closed. To register for a course, you first need to obtain a Student ID, which will be valid for 2 years before it needs renewal. The initial registration for both the Student ID and the courses will cost Sh. 5,500.
Afterwards, you will need to renew your Student ID for Sh. 3,500 (€25) and pay for any additional courses you choose to enrol in.
The learning will be delivered virtually through live lessons with instructors, complemented by assessments set by the lecturer. EBU’s approach is distinctive for its high-quality education and real-time instruction, setting it apart from other online platforms that typically rely on prerecorded videos.
A program lasts about 13 weeks before graduation. Certificates will be sent to students via email and secured using EBU Luxembourg’s advanced blockchain technology thus ensuring authenticity and preventing tampering.
This opportunity is not just for learning but also for networking through peer collaborations. One of the previous Kenyan student cohorts even celebrated their graduation with a physical ceremony at a high-end retreat location in the city.
How Kenyan James Mulli founded European Business University in Luxembourg
Students who find themselves in a tight financial spot can apply for a hardship scholarship, slashing their fees to a modest Sh. 850 (€6).
To achieve this, EBU Luxembourg has partnered with various firms and institutions, including Bizna Kenya, to oversee the selection process and ensure a seamless operation.
Applicants for the recently launched Hardship Category Scholarships are required to submit specific documents in order to qualify for the scholarship. They include:
- Demonstration of financial need: Applicants must provide supporting documentation to the EBU Partner that demonstrates a dire financial situation.
- Personal Statement: Candidates must provide a personal statement detailing their background, obstacles, and future aspirations, along with reasons for needing hardship assistance in their education journey.
- Letter of Recommendation: EBU & its partners would love to hear from people who know the candidate best – teachers, mentors, or community leaders. Applicants should therefore submit at least one recommendation letter attesting to their character, academic potential and financial hardship
After these documents have been read and verified by EBU and/or its partners there will be interviews conducted to further assess the financial need and determine a candidate’s suitability for the scholarship.
“To be affordable, you cannot charge the same high tuition fees as other European universities…we only charge a commitment fee,” said Dr. Mulli in a past session.
