United States President Donald Trump continues to push forward on his campaign promises which included mass deportations of illegal immigrants living in the country.
The American Federal Government recently launched an app, the Customs and Border Protection Home, which has a self-deportation feature for undocumented immigrants to leave the US peacefully.
The CBP Home app replaced CBP One was launched by Joe Biden to allow over a million migrants in Mexico to schedule an appointment requesting entry at a legal border crossing. Trump shut down the app hours after his inauguration.
The CBP Home app has a feature where immigrants will need to submit intent to depart, share personal details, upload a photo and declare if they have enough money to leave the country.
“People in our country illegally can self-deport the easy way, or they can get deported the hard way, and that’s not pleasant,” Trump spoke in a White House video release.
“My administration is launching the CBP Home app to give people in our country unlawfully an opportunity to leave now and self-deport voluntarily. If they do, they could potentially have the opportunity to return legally in the future,” Trump announced cautioning that forced deportations would lock them from ever being admitted to the US again.
The CBP Home app is part of a larger move by the American government to save on US taxpayer dollars and allow Immigration & Customs Enforcement (ICE) to focus on dangerous immigrants.
Around 30,000 Kenyans are said to be living unlawfully in the US. All immigrants, living without proper documents, have been requested to download the app in all app stores and start the process lest the ICE catches up to them and deport them in chains.
