The Ministry of Education has opened a portal for the placement of students who attained university entry grades to pursue courses of their choice in various institutions across the country.
Speaking on Wednesday during a prize-giving day at Mary Hill Girls School, Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba said the application window targets candidates who sat examinations between 2020 and 2024 but did not get a chance for admission.
“The government has extended the application for degree courses through the KUCCPS portal to candidates who sat KCSE from 2020 onwards. We are now offering opportunities to around 305,000 students who did not apply for the course due to various reasons,” Ogamba said.
The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) portal for the 2025 university placement opened on March 28 to allow 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) candidates to apply for various courses.
The 2024 KCSE candidates were advised to apply through the KUCCPS portal before April 21, 2025.
How to Apply
Candidates seeking placement for various courses are advised to log in on the KUCCPS students portal https://students.kuccps.net/login/ and apply.
Once learners access the portal, they will be prompted to enter their Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) index number, KCSE year, and password.

Students are advised to use their Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) index number or birth certificate number as their password.
KUCCPS had earlier clarified that only Kenyan citizens are eligible for university placement in Kenya.
However, non-Kenyans can apply for specific courses, including the Diploma in Primary Teacher Education, Diploma in Early Childhood Teacher Education programs, and Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) programs.
An applicant looking to pursue a degree course must obtain a minimum grade of C+ (plus) in KCSE, while a diploma student must have at least a C- (minus). On the other hand, a certificate student must have a minimum grade of D+ (plus) in KCSE.
Only students who apply through KUCCPS are considered for placement in the respective programs they select.
