The Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) has officially opened its loan and scholarship application portal for the 2025-2026 academic year.
The announcement follows the release of the 2025 university and college placements by the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS).
According to HELB, the application portal is open for both first-time students and continuing students, including those pursuing undergraduate and technical and vocational education and training (TVET) courses across various institutions in Kenya.
The loans and scholarships are designed to support tuition and upkeep for students in both public and private universities and TVET institutions across the country.

How to apply
First-time applicants are required to apply through the Higher Education Financing (HEF) portal via www.hef.co.ke, while continuing students are advised to dial *642# or use the HELB mobile app.
Qualified students are urged to apply early to avoid last-minute inconveniences and ensure seamless processing ahead of the September intake. The deadline for applications is August 31, 2025.
”We have now opened the portal. The 2025-2026 First Time and Subsequent Applications for Undergraduate & TVET Loans & Scholarships are now open. Apply via www.hef.co.ke for first-time applicants or dial *642# or HELB-App for continuing students,” HELB stated.
The launch of this year’s loan application season is guided by the Student-Centred Funding Model (SCFM), which is built on the principle of “Leaving No Student Behind.”
The model provides financial assistance based on a student’s individual level of need, aiming to ensure equitable access to higher education.
