The Maboko Island Resort, also known as Camp Tom Island, is one of the popular places in Kisumu, known for its beautiful scenery and unique culture.
The island, which sits on 5 acres of land in Lake Victoria, just a few kilometers from Kisumu city, is valued at over Sh500 Million
It features a resort and a main block that is made up of three self-contained suites that are well furnished. At the center of Maboko is a helipad for the helicopters commuting to and from the island.
However, the common mode of transportation to the island involves the use of a powerboat.
Visitors who wish to visit the resort have to make prior reservations to enjoy the amenities which includes green scenery, a clear view of Lake Victoria, swimming pool, kid’s playground, and a volleyball pitch, among others.

Maboko Island is owned by former Kisumu West MP John Olago Aluoch, one of the wealthiest yet silent leaders from the Nyanza region.

Born and raised in Seme, Kisumu West constituency, Olago attended Kisumu Boys High School before joining Maseno High School for his A levels.
He proceeded to enroll for a Law Degree at the University of Nairobi and later joined the Kenya School of Law, where he pursued a Postgraduate Diploma in Law.
He began his career as a Resident Magistrate at the Kenyan Judiciary, a position he held for four years. In 1982, he founded Olago Alouch & Company Advocates and became the Sole Proprietor of the Kenya Mediation and Arbitration Company, Kisumu.
Political Career
Olago made his political debut in 2007 when he was elected as a Member of Parliament for Kisumu West constituency on an Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party ticket.
He later joined Ford-Kenya and subsequently won the seat in the 2013 and 2017 general elections.
His fifteen years stint as the MP of Kisumu West constituency came to an end in the 2022 general election after losing to former Kisumu Woman Representative Rozaah Buyu by a wide margin
