Kenya Airways is set to take in an additional Sh. 3 billion from fresh sub-leasing of planes.
This follows the leasing of five Boeing planes to Oman Air and Turkish Airlines in 2015.
The leases are part of KQ’s cost cutting plans. The additional sub-leasing of aircraft involves the same carriers, with Oman Air taking two planes and Turkish Airlines taking three planes.
This will bring the total number of aircrafts second to the Muscat-based carrier to four while those sent to Istanbul to six.
The Sh. 3 billion loss on the new contracts is split into long term leases which will generate a Sh. 2.07 billion deficit and short-term leases whose loss now stands at Sh. 980 million.
