Ukraine has announced that its soldiers have captured some Kenyan men who are fighting for Russia. According to an official at the Ukrainian Embassy, the Ukraine soldiers captured four Kenyan men in the battlefield.
The four Kenyans were identified as Peter Njenga, Martin Munene, Felix Mutahi, and Evans. Mutahi, Njenga and Munene were captured on video identifying themselves and admitting that they were fighting for the Russian army.
The trio were among several foreign nationals who were captured fighting for Russia. It was not immediately clear how the four Kenyans had left the country and how they ended up in the the frontlines of the battle between Russia and Ukraine in which thousands of soldiers have died.
However, according to a video that was released by the 57th Motorized Infantry Brigade (unit A1736) which is a unit of the Ukraine soldiers, the fourth Kenyan who only identified as Evans claimed that he had visited Russia as a tourist only to be duped into joining the Russian military.
Evans claimed that he was an athlete. He alleged that he was about to return to Kenya after his visit when his host came up with what he termed as a lucrative proposition. He claimed that his host promised that he would help him acquire a work permit.
A day later, the host brought him documents that were typed in Russian to sign. However, his host did not reveal what the actual job was. After signing the documents, Evans boarded joined a number of other Russian men and they all boarded a vehicle that took them to a military camp. Unknown to him, he had signed to enlist and fight for the Russian army.

After being trained briefly, Evans and his fellow recruits were given guns and sent to the frontlines. He claimed that at the frontlines, he had escaped the Russian side through a forest and surrendered to the Ukrainian soldiers in Kharkiv Oblast, an area that is near Vovchansk.
