Kiharu Member of Parliament Ndindi Nyoro has scored another first after lowering school fees in all day schools in his constituency. Starting this year, Kiharu school fees for day students will be just Sh500 per term. Previously, Kiharu school fees was Sh1,000 per term, under the Masomo Bora initiative.
The Masomo Bora initiative is a programme that Nyoro has been running in the constituency. The initiative is currently covering about 12,000 students in 65 day secondary schools.
The new school fees will cover all students from Grade 10, Form Three and Form Four. According to the MP, the fees will cover all students regardless of whether they are from Kiharu or not, as long as they school in Kiharu day schools.
At the same time, Nyoro has introduced a food programme for all students. In this programme, students will be served with chapatis every last Friday of the month. They will be served with rice for three days, githeri for three days and will also get porridge during tea breaks. These meals will be served to students attending classes during Saturdays.
Nyoro has also identified twenty schools in which students joining Grade 10 will be provided with free uniforms. All schools in the constituency will also receive Sh10 million to purchase revision materials in 2026 to boost performance.
Principals from the best performing and best improved schools will also be rewarded with fully paid trips to Dubai. Those who emerge victorious and have traveled to Dubai previously will also get a chance to choose to visit Malaysia.

In addition, Nyoro has said that from his own resources, the best improved teacher per subject in each of the sub-counties will get a paid-up trip to Mombasa. This will include the previous 2025 year since teachers who would have benefitted were enrolled for the marking of the KCSE examinations and missed out as a result.
