As you might remember, several days ago, I wrote and article titled, ‘What Is Wrong With Jeff Koinange Live Nowadays?’ A few days later, the show was taken off KTN. Of course Jeff said he had quit himself but that’s what every big shot is allowed to say when he has been dismissed. Despite not liking how things had been going with JKL recently, I was sad to see things turning out the way they did. Jeff Koinange is a brilliant journalist and given his tremendous career and experience, he should even be a boss somewhere or working at one of the world’s best media houses, not facing humiliation.
I believe he can still redeem himself in a number of ways,here is how.
1.Move the same show to another station.
Of course Jeff should have the chance to write his wrongs at another place and prove that he is still the guy. I think he should move back to K24 and revert to ‘The Bench.’ That was the show that everyone loved. It wasn’t too political. It was fun. Jeff was also at the height of his powers when he was doing this show. When people hear that Jeff is going back to k24, they will tune in in numbers. Going back to K24 shouldn’t be hard too since the station is owned by the president,who happens to be his cousin. Even if he moves to another station, he has the advantage of keeping the JKL name. Since he was a contractor and not an employee of KTN, he still has the rights to the name.
2.Take a break
Or maybe he can just take a lengthy break and let everything cool down first. He can give it like a year, then come back,bigger, better and looking to prove a point.
3. Correct the mistakes that brought him in trouble.
Wherever he goes, Jeff Koinange needs to do away with everything that made him a punchline for critics. He should stop bringing some specific guests too frequently.people like Miguna Miguna and Kuria shouldn’t appear at all. He should make the his new show more like US talk shows, with fun elements and interesting guests. It shouldn’t be just about politics.
4. Look for a job at another foreign media house.
To prove that he is still better than everyone else Kenya has to offer, Jeff can look for a job at another international media house. I am sure there are a couple of American or European power houses that would be willing to enlist his services. He doesn’t have to do the job for long.Just a year or two then come back to Kenya.
5. Work with the right people next time.
It should be noted that the reason Jeff Koinange lost his show is because his errand boy Xtiandela released the ‘behind the scenes’ video of Miguna Miguna using rape slurs against Esther Passaris. This video is what brought too much pressure and condemnation on Jeff. If the video had remained under, there is no doubt that Jeff would still be having his show. Every discussion that took place on live TV that day was within the realms of normalcy. But what took place in the leaked video is what many deemed as unacceptable.
Now I don’t know what convinced Jeff to hire Xtiandela to do his PA work in the first place. Xtiandela is a social media influencer who go famous after buying followers. He has been in numerous scandals such as the Bidco one and he was also fired from nation Fm last year.
I know his intention wasn’t to cause Jeff any harm. He just wanted to please his followers by releasing that video. But any smart person would have thought it through and realized that releasing a video in which a man is harassing a woman and making comments about rape wasn’t going to go down well with the public. KTN had to act.
So next time, Jeff needs to work with smarter people, not people who unintentionally cause his downfall.
