NCBA share trading on NSE resumes after two-week suspension

The Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) has lifted the suspension on trading in NCBA Group Plc shares, paving the way for the completion of a major ownership transaction involving South Africa’s Nedbank Group Limited.

In a notice issued on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, NSE confirmed that the suspension, which took effect on October 21, has been lifted.

“The Nairobi Securities Exchange Plc (NSE) hereby notifies the investing public and market participants that the suspension of trading in the ordinary shares of NCBA Group Plc, which took effect at the close of trading on Wednesday, 21 October 2026, will be lifted with effect from Tuesday, 3 November 2026,” the exchange stated.

However, the NSE announced that trading in NCBA shares would be temporarily halted on Tuesday to allow the execution of a block trade through its Block Trade Board.

“Following the lifting of the suspension, trading in NCBA Group Plc shares will be temporarily halted on Tuesday, 3 November 2026, to facilitate the execution of a block trade through the NSE Block Trade Board, pursuant to the acquisition by Nedbank Group Limited of approximately 66% of the issued ordinary shares of NCBA Group Plc,” NSE stated.

Normal trading will resume once the block trade process has been completed.

Sh110 billion acquisition

Nedbank’s takeover bid follows an offer made earlier in the year to acquire a controlling interest in NCBA Group, in a transaction valued at approximately Sh110 billion.

The deal became unconditional after NCBA shareholders accepted Nedbank’s offer for 1.087 billion ordinary shares, clearing the way for the Johannesburg-listed financial institution to assume control of the Kenyan lender.

The transaction followed the receipt of the necessary regulatory approvals in both Kenya and South Africa.

The acquisition marks a significant expansion of Nedbank’s presence in East Africa, providing the South African lender with an established position in the region’s banking industry.
