How much do Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission officials earn every month? According to the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC), IEBC chair Wafula Chebukati earns a gross salary of Sh. 924,000.
This salary includes a house allowance of Sh. 200,000 and a salary market adjustment of Sh. 169,600.
Additionally, the IEBC boss is entitled to a car loan of Sh. 10 million and a mortgage of Sh. 40 million.

The SRC’s structure showed that commissioners and vice-chairpersons of constitutional commissions, excluding the IEBC, were entitled to a leaner pay of Sh. 621,250 a month, from Sh. 650,000 — a 4.4 per cent cut.
IEBC Commissioners’ jobs come with six-year non-renewable term and other hefty perks as well as an exit package equivalent to 31 percent of the pay earned over the 72-month term.
The Sh. 621, 250 a month pay is nearly 10-times Kenya’s average salary of Sh. 64,854 and only a small class of Kenyans earn this type of pay.
Commissioners also enjoy allowances, airtime, security and chauffer driven official car.
Other benefits include a full medical cover per family for themselves, spouse and up to four children below 25 years and family dependent on the commissioner.
