Wambui Collymore: This is where we deposited Bob’s ashes

It is one year since the former Safaricom chief executive officer Bob Collymore died. He died on July 1 last year. He was the husband to Wambui Collymore. In October 2017, Collymore went to the UK to receive treatment for Acute Myeloid Leukemia, a type of cancer that starts in the blood-forming cells of the bone marrow and is incurable.

According to a report that quoted the late famous corporate leader’s wife Wambui Collymore, days after Mr. Collymore learnt he had a stubborn strain of blood cancer, he started scripting his funeral – what it would look like, how long it would take, what song would be played. He scripted it all, except what outfit he would be cremated in, which his wife did. She chose to put his body in a white linen suit, with no shoes, no jewellery, nothing else – just him, in his purest form.

But after he was cremated, where were his ashes kept or deposited? “Bob’s ashes were deposited into the sea in Diani. Diani was his favourite beach in the whole world, so we thought it best to put his ashes in the sea there; so that no matter where any of us, his family or friends, are in the world, as long as you are near or out at sea, then you are in the presence of where his remains are,” said Ms. Collymore.
