TSC Pay Scale: Teachers have a rejected a proposal by the Teachers Service Commission that would have increased their salaries by between 16 and 32 per cent. Through the Kenya National Union of Teachers and the Kenya Union of Post Primary Teachers, the teachers say that TSC rejected the special school, township and postgraduate allowances.
According to a report that appeared in the Daily Nation on Thursday, Kuppet had pushed for a Sh. 15,000 allowance for teachers in special schools. On the other hand, Knut wants the basic pay raised by between 120per cent and 200 per cent. Kuppet, though, is pushing for a salary increment of between 30 per cent and 70 per cent.
Shock, protests hit TSC over recruitment grading, hiring process
However, the TSC is apparently not convinced on the 50 per cent to 70 per cent transport allowance increase and has made a counter offer for a 20 per cent increment. It had also proposed that house allowance be increased by 10 per cent, but Knut, which is headed by Wilson Sossion wanted house allowances to match the house rates in Nairobi.
According to the TSC proposals sent to the Salaries and Remuneration Commission, the tutors would get a 20% increase for the commuter, leave and house allowances.
Teachers in Grades C4 to D5 were supposed to get a 16 per cent salary increase on their basic pay while those in Grade B5 to Grade C3 would get a 32 per cent increment in a period of four years.
TSC : New teachers will only be permanent, pensionable after 10 years
The teachers’ unions are now waiting for communication from the TSC on the pay negotiations. “We saw a notification from the SRC trying to jump-start the negotiation, but we can’t take directions from them. We’re waiting for communication from the TSC,” Kuppet secretary-general Akello Misori said in the report by the Nation. TSC Pay Scale.
