Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe has spoken on the upcoming May school reopening. While speaking during an interview on Citizen Tv on Monday, CS Kagwe said that the reopening of schools across the country would be determined on vaccination and the positivity rate.
Currently, the positivity rate is hovering around 11 to 12 per cent, down from the highs of 25 per cent that were recorded in early March.
“If the positivity rate rises and parents and students are put at risk, then we will be forced to postpone the reopening of school. This is because there is no way we are going to risk the lives of our children at one time,” he said. “Reopening of schools is particularly of concern and we are going to keep an eye on developments. In the meeting we had, we were briefed well by the Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha. We are confident that they are taking sufficient steps at the moment and facing the pandemic in a better manner.”
