The High Court has sentenced Acting Inspector General of Police Gilbert Masengeli to six months in prison after being found guilty of contempt of court.
In his ruling, Justice Lawrence Mugambi ordered the police boss to surrender himself to the Commissioner General of Prisons to serve his sentence within the next seven days.
According to Mugambi, Â Masengeli may avoid serving the sentence if he appears in court within the next seven days.
“Court will suspend the sentence for seven days and have Masengeli appear and explain the whereabouts of the three persons,” said the Judge.
“In event he doesn’t submit himself CS Interior must take all steps to ensure he is committed to prison to serve sentence,” said the Judge.

Masengeli is accused of disobeying court orders related to the disappearance of three men in Kitengela on August 19, 2024.
The three individuals, Jamil Longton Hashim, his brother Aslam Longton, and activist Bob Michemi Njagi, were abducted by unknown people believed to be police officers.
Witnesses reported that the three were forcibly taken away in saloon cars, which sped off into the night.
The incident saw the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) move to court seeking explanations for their whereabouts.
The High Court intervened, issuing multiple summonses for Masengeli to appear and provide information about the case.
However, despite repeated orders, Masengeli failed to attend court on seven separate occasions prompting the judges to act.
