How you can get more sales from advertising this year

The majority of Kenyans enjoy spending their time outside. This is a phenomenon that has increased sharply over the last two years, riding on post 2020 pandemic recovery when most people were cooped up indoors for so long.

In the same vein, there is a rising number of people who are deliberately opting to put their digital gadgets away while outdoors to enjoy the fresh air and the fresh environment.

Take Patricia Akoth who is a publishing editor. She has been working indoors since April 2020. Early this year, she decided to return to her office. “I go to the office twice per week,” she says.

Over the weekends, she has been taking afternoon leisure drives and bus rides to different locations in the Nairobi Metropolitan. “When I’m in a moving vehicle, I find myself looking out the window to deliberately take a break from my phone and take in the scenery,” she says.

This portends growth opportunities for businesses. According to Marketing Consultant Francis Mwinamo, one of the most effective ways businesses can tap into this phenomenon to scale their numbers is by tapping into Out of Home Advertising. “Most people are staying outdoors. And the majority of these people are more accepting of outdoor advertising,” he says.

His sentiments are echoed by a research study by Dash Two on the impact of Out of Home Advertising (OOH). According to this study, over half of people who stay outdoors say that a billboard they’ve seen in the last month has piqued their interest.

At the same time, 71 per cent of people outdoors say they find digital billboards to be better than online ads. 75 per cent of all travelers within a month are also likely to spot a digital billboard outdoors.

However, says Mwinamo, these numbers will hardly work in your favour unless you position your outdoor advert with an out of home advertising expert who knows the right locations for maximum return on investments.

The majority of our drivers whose vehicles carry these adverts are taxi operators. This is designed to ensure that there is maximum reach and visibility for any brand.

According to Mwinamo, on-vehicle branding has a high rate of message retention. “It makes a brand better recognizable and as a result, increases top of mind awareness amongst the target audience” he says.

In addition to billboards and on-vehicle adverts your business can also be advertised in some of the country’s most popular supermarkets. AdNest is also offering in store digital screen advertising.

For instance, you can have your business advert running on screens inside Naivas Supermarkets, which is currently the largest retailer in the country in sales and traffic. Under this package, your advert will also be showcased at Quickmart and Carrefour supermarkets. Your advert will be displayed once every five minutes.
