Thousands of Kenyans in the Rift Valley Region have undoubtedly made great strides in life courtesy of sports, with a big number specializing in athletics.
The likes of the late marathoner Kelvin Kiptum and Pamela Jelimo, among others, are some of the Kenyans in the region who joined the millionaire club at a very young age.
Trans Nzoia Senator Allan Chesang also revealed he made his first million at a very tender age courtesy of sports. Born at Matano Village in Trans Nzoia County, Chesang had his early education at schools around the area.
He enrolled at St Anthony’s Kitale for his high school education but later moved to Musingu High School in Kakamega County, where he finalized his secondary education.
He revealed while in form one, he participated in sports, specifically table tennis, which opened opportunities for him.
His prowess saw him selected to the National table tennis team, where he got an opportunity to represent Kenya in an international competition. Chesang emerged victorious at the competition, bagging the junior Table Tennis champion award.
“The first time I represented Kenya in a championship was in a Table Tennis tournament in Congo Brazzaville. I was paid $10,000, which was equivalent to Ksh1 Million in allowances for a weekend of playing,” he stated.
The journey did not end there for Chesang, who later joined a French table tennis club where it is alleged that he’d earn up to Sh2 million per week.
He reportedly used the money to support his father in paying for his school and soaked the rest in his father’s insurance company.
Peter Nduati: How I made my first million at 24, lost all at 26
His table tennis engagement with the club ended after he completed university, where he diverted to entrepreneurship, but all his businesses failed.
“My businesses flopped, and I ended up back at square one, I was auctioned,” Chesang disclosed, adding that he managed to bounce back after forming a Community-Based Organisation (CBO).
Just like any other successful entrepreneur, Chesang gave entrepreneurship a second attempt and succeeded.
He has highly invested in the entertainment industry with a string of clubs in Nairobi, Thika, and Meru, including the Kraft Lounge in Westlands and The Garage Club in Thika.
He has also invested in the water purification business, clearing and forwarding, and LPG, among others.
Chesang, who holds a  Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce from Moi University and a Master’s Degree in Political Science from the University of Nairobi, made his political debut in 2017 when he contested for the Kwanza parliamentary seat but lost.
He made a comeback in the 2022 general election, where he was elected Trans Nzoia Senator.
Last month, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) accused him of being involved in a gold scam syndicate in an attempt to defraud a South African national of over Ksh.23 million.
