Late billionaire businessman Chris Kirubi’s son-in-law Andrew Musangi is one of the six shortlisted candidates for the Central Bank of Kenya Chairperson position.
Musangi, a professional lawyer, currently serves as the chairman of Kenya’s Procurement Oversight Authority Board. He was appointed to this office by former president Uhuru Kenyatta.
Andrew Musangi has also previously served as the chairman of the Jubilee Party National Election Board. Aside from that, he has also held numerous senior roles both in the private and public sectors.
Musangi studied law in the UK at the University of Hull before being admitted to the bar, serving as an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya in 1995.
In 1998, he established Mukite Musangi and Company Advocates (MMC) advocacy firm. Here he served as the managing partner.
Andrew Musangi married Mary Anne Musangi, one of Chris Kirubi’s daughters. The two tied the knot in 2009. She is a heiress to the multi-billion fortune owned by the wealthy departed man.
The couple has emerged as key figures in managing the expansive Kirubi empire. They oversee important operations encompassing significant holdings in various companies, notably Centum Investment.
In 2021, Musangi assumed positions on Centum Real Estate (Centum RE) boards and its parent company, Centum Investment. This signalled an increase in his influence within the organization.
Furthermore, Andrew Musangi is the son of the late Chancellor of Egerton University, Professor Richard Musangi. Prof. Musangi passed on in 2021, aged 87 years old. He served as Vice Chancellor at the institution before being promoted.
Andrew Musangi emerges as a strong contender for the CBK Chairperson position. He rivals 5 other individuals; Abdikadir Omar, Thomas Mwadeghu, John Konchellah, James Lopoyetum and James Gituro Wahome.
Shortlisted candidates are expected to face a vetting panel on Wednesday, July 12th, between 9am and 3pm.
