Apply for KEBS National Essay Competition and win Sh. 70,000

KEBS invites the youth to participate in a national essay competition on How standards contribute to women empowerment and development.”

Introduction: The Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) in collaboration with the African Organization for Standardization (ARSO) welcomes the Kenyan youth to participate in a Standardization Essay competition.

The Competition will have 3 categories of winners: at National, Regional and Continental Level.

The competition targets youth below the age of 35 years, attending Universities or Colleges recognized and approved by the Commission of Higher Education in Kenya.

The main objective of the essay competition is to generate and sustain awareness of standardization among the Youth in Kenya.

The top 3 winners of the Essay Competition will be presented with certificates and cash prizes of Kes. 70, 000, 60, 000 and 50, 000 respectively including sponsorship for a round trip to attend the next African Organization for Standardization General Assemblyin Arusha, Tanzania.

The three top essays will further be forwarded to the African Organization for Standardization to compete with others from the African continent and winners of the continental competition will be feted during the African Organization for Standardization General Assembly.

Entry rules and conditions

Co-Op post

1. This competition is open to Kenyans below the age of 35 years and studying in a university/college recognized by the Commission for Higher Education.

2. Length of essays: Essays should be between 1000 and 1200 words.

3. Presentation: Essays should be double spaced and presented in Century Gothic, size 12

4. Language of essays: Essays to be submitted in English.

5. Information on the author: Authors may use up to 50 words to describe themselves. Information should include their names, course and year of study, name, town and country in which their university/college is located. (N. B: this will not be part of the 1000- 1200 words).

6. Contacts of authors: Authors should provide us with their postal, physical, telephone and email addresses on the first page of the essay together with the title of the essay and information on the author.

7. Kindly attach a copy your Identity Card or passport and a completely filled registration form that can be obtained from Kenya Bureau of Standards ;

8. Number of essays to be submitted: Participants are only allowed to submit one essay.

Deadline for Submission of Essays.

Essay must be submitted to e-mail: [email protected] by mid night of 1st December 2015.

What the organisers are looking for

The organizers are looking for a well-structured essay that contains the following:

• A precise introduction of the essay;
• An explanation of the problems being faced by women in Africa today in relation to development;
• General understanding of standards;
• General knowledge of the situation in Africa regarding to women empowerment;
• How standards contribute to women empowerment and development in Africa;
• A clear example on how standards have in the past assisted in solving issues related to women empowerment in your Country and a conclusion.
