There’s a new fraudster in town.The fraudster, who is going by the name Mr. Fredrick, is purporting to sell a Toyota Probox KCC /H. According to Charles Kiviu of Expedition Motors who nearly fell victim to this fraudster, the car may have been stolen and has fake documentation including the logbook
Here’s is Mr. kiviu’s red flag regarding this Toyota Probox: “Yesterday I almost got into a deal with him but managed to outsmart him as the fellow could not answer simple questions correctly such as the month he imported the car, how many car alarm remotes the car has yet its new, struggling to locate his own cut off switch and the logbook though looking like it was 90% genuine had some questions to raise including the quality of paper, the KRA watermarks and seal on it.Simple things like keeping time as the fellow took 2.5.hours to get to Nairobi CBD also raised eyebrows.He also claimed he did not have a bank account but belonged to Taifa Sacco which was closed at the time of our meeting so he insisted on a cash transaction.
Finally when he knew he was outsmarted he panicked and ran away when I requested him we proceed to KRA for verification and authentication of the his paper work , he thought being a Saturday we would not get someone there but I had already made a request to one of my guys at times tower to meet us there for the final verification before committing. Always be very careful especially if you are a first time car owner or you are not experienced in the industry as you might be duped very fast with very good offers by some very religious people (pastors) claiming to be having sick patients in hospital and other financial challenges as the reasons for the quick sale.
Have always learned to be very pessimistic when looking at any good deal out there before committing. Follow the right procedures and if you doubt any thing in the paper work take it to KRA and flying squad at Pangani especially guys who you have met in the streets, internet and have very good offers. You might buy lunch to that officer but he might save your life.”
