Dairy milk processor Brookside has started teaching dairy farmers in Bungoma and Trans Nzoia Counties how to produce hay and boost their dairy feeds.
The exercise kicked off yesterday with farmers contracted under the Mt Elgon Livelihoods Project. Interestingly, the farmers undergoing the training will also get a special price for their milk.
“Brookside is investing in sustainable agriculture practices for farmers, including animal feed preparation and storage as one way of addressing seasonal fluctuation in milk production,” said Brookside’s milk procurement director John Gethi.
Brookside is partnering with France-based livelihoods fund and development organisation Vi Agroforestry.
“Increased demand for our dairy products means we have to invest more in production of raw milk by ensuring that dairy animals have access to adequate and nutritious animal feeds as well as water,” he added.
