Dr Catherine Masitsa’s home, nestled in the heart of Karen, Nairobi is best described by the adjectives rustic, practical and rural. She has lived there for the last 10 years.

Catherine Masitsa’s home has a distinctly rural feel that she says reflects her personality. Her husband has been instrumental in decorating their lavish space.

“It is rustic, practical and rural; everything here speaks of who I really am and I don’t like ‘me too’ things,” she noted.

Each piece of furniture in their home is either a treasure, a vintage or an antique piece.

Step into her lavish living room where you’ll find yourself walking on a rustic red brick floor with a stunning Persian carpet. Walls with a tasteful brown and beige colour scheme and classic paintings give the room an airy feel.

Masitsa jokes about how she’d have to hire private security in her home, had she bought the original paintings.

From the plush sofas to the elegant dining table and chairs, every element blends seamlessly to create a cosy and inviting ambience.

The reception room on the other hand exudes luxury with its vintage sofa and striking decor. A magnificent grandfather clock stands tall in one corner, while a guitar displayed on the wall beckons you to unwind and relax.

Melodic harmonies seem to flow within the family’s bloodline, with two grand pianos in the living room fulfilling the testament of their musical heritage.

A vintage wooden piano and a sleek black grand piano stand in perfect harmony, both exuding a sense of elegance and sophistication.

Keeping her daughter in mind, the mother of one made sure to select items for their home that her daughter would be able to touch and explore without restriction.

“My daughter can jump everywhere and I also wanted my husband to be in this house and feel at home,” she stated.

She has a captivating island kitchen, whose charming ambience is accompanied by a quaint pot rack. To achieve an authentic vibe, the cabinets are painted in an enchanting shade of olive green.

The TV personality shares that despite her magnificent home, she still maintains her roots as a country girl. Guests who come to her house often feel as though they are in their own grandmother’s home.

“When you are putting together farmhouse style, you want to be careful to avoid sharp colours and want to work with neutral colours; you combine old and new,” she added.

According to her, she recommends those looking to buy a home in Karen should ensure that they have a good view of Ngong Hills.

“You have to be living later than life, you have to be above average. Life is full of ordinary things. I am not a drama queen, I am extra,” she spoke of her role in the reality TV show.
