The majority of residents in Central region and the Rift Valley are struggling financially.
This has been revealed by a survey that was done by research firm Infotrack. The survey has also revealed that 73 per cent of Kenyans are grasping on straws to survive.
This survey shows that 18 per cent of these people are severely distressed financially while 55 per cent are struggling to make ends meet.
In the Central region (Mt Kenya), up to 74 per cent if residents are struggling to meet their daily financial needs. In the Rift Valley, this number stands at 73 per cent.
The situation is worse in North Eastern and Coastal region where financial distress levels stand at 78 per cent and 76 per cent respectively.
This survey was conducted between December 18 and 19, 2023. In the survey, only 5 per cent of Kenyans reported that they are currently living comfortable lives financially.
Incidentally, the financial distress has had a trickle down effect that is seeing more Kenyans suffer mental and emotional stress.

For instance, the survey revealed that 48 per cent of all Kenyans are currently suffering stress and anxiety. 32 per cent are experiencing strains in their relationships that are as a result of their inability to meet their financial obligations.
18 per cent of Kenyans are suffering mental problems as a result of poor financial statuses while 21 per cent and experiencing poor physical health.
