Centum Investment Company has declared dividends for the first time in eight years, ending an uneasy no-dividend policy. The investment firm will pay dividends of Sh. 1 for every share held, which will amount to a total of a Sh665 million total payout.
The dividend payout comes shortly after Centum announced a 25 per cent growth in net profit to Sh. Sh9.9 billion for the full-year 2015 from Sh7.9 billion recorded in the full year 2014.
Additionally, Centum’s revenues more than doubled to Sh24.2 billion during the year compared to Sh11.8 billion recorded the previous period.
Despite shareholders getting a pie of the profits, Centum’s employees emerged winners with the firm setting aside Sh.
Sh. 550 million this year for employee bonuses. This amount will be paid out over the next three years.
According to Centum CEO James Mworia, the huge bonuses offered to its employees are used as a retention tool. “The bonus that has accrued now is Sh550 million. We will repay it in the next three years and this is used as an employee retention tool,” he said. Last year, Centum paid out bonuses amounting to Sh. 1 billion to its emloyees.
