Blow to Citizen TV as government poaches another star reporter

Blow to Citizen TV as government poaches another star reporter

The Royal Media Services (RMS) is set to suffer another major blow after it emerged that Citizen TV reporter Jane Chemutai Goin is quitting the media house for a government job.

According to media reports, the political reporter is set to leave in March for her new role as the principal media relations officer at the office of the National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula.

The journalist is reportedly serving notice after a long stint at the RMS-owned station.  She is popularly known for her prowess in politics, governance and current affairs reporting.

Goin kickstarted her career as an intern working at Standard Group’s KTN TV. Here, she made a breakthrough and announced herself as the ‘next big thing’ in Kenya’s journalism space.

At KTN, she curved her niche as a specialist in political reporting, showcasing her expertise in the field. After the internship, she was hired as a political reporter at Capital FM.

Later, Media Max’s K24 TV called for her to pen her signature on an employment contract. She worked at K24 and strived to showcase her skills.

Her breakthrough came during the 2017 General Elections, where she was pivotal in providing extensive political news coverage across several counties.

In 2018, Jane Chemutai and her colleague at K24, Apollo Kamau, left the then-struggling K24 TV for Citizen TV, where they had just landed new jobs as political affairs news and parliamentary content reporters.

Her exit comes as a blow to Citizen TV which has lost some of its top journalists to the state and other international media houses.

Among the journalists who recently exited the media house for high-ranked jobs include political reporter Francis Gachuri who is currently serving at the Interior Ministry, and Sam Ogina (office of the Majority leader at the National Assembly).

Others are State House Deputy Spokesman Hussein Mohammed, Nick Gitonga (Director of Communication Kwale County), Waihiga Mwaura (BBC), and Willis Raburu (TV47).
