Citizen Tv Employee Salaries: An angry employee at Citizen Tv has written an anonymous letter over pay inequality at the popular television station. The employee says that  junior employees who have been working behind the scenes are highly exploited, while the top workers reap big at the expense of their juniors.

The employee revealed that the technical staff who keep the company moving earn between Sh. 50,000 and Sh. 80,000, while news anchors earn as high as Sh. 800,000 per month.

“Cameramen run all day, get into violent situations but they still can’t even afford a vehicle to drive to work. Producers spend hours on the desk editing content but they can’t afford an Uber (taxi) home when they get overwhelmed with work and work till late in the night,” wrote the employee. “Technicians will work 24 hours, respond to failures at night, manage multiple sites but they can’t can’t even earn close to six figures?”

The employee further argued that the station had refused to revise pay upwards even after the government started implementing punitive taxes and reverted to the pre-corona tax regime. “We know that the 20 per cent salary reduction did not apply to everyone in the company and as we talk we know that there are individuals who pocket Sh. 100,000 every weekend as entertainment allowance,” says the employee.

Among the departmental heads that were singled out in the letter are Linus Kaikai, programmes director Fred Afune, Swale Mdoe, HR director Rose Wanjohi, Joe Ageyo, Francis Gachuri and Yvonne Okwara.

In sections of the letter that was full of expletives, the anonymous employee alleged that employees were being forced to advance sexual favours to get higher pay or promotion. However, Citizen has refused to respond to the letter that leaked online, arguing that it was anonymously written. The media house claimed that it could only make a comment if the letter passed through its channels and the author is known.  “We can’t respond to an anonymous letter. That can happen in any company in the world. The letter was copied to everyone. Anyone can write that about any company,” a source from the station was quoted by local news channel. The letter has since gone viral on social media.

Citizen has some of the highest paid anchors in Kenya, with some like Jeff Koinange taking home close to Sh. 2 million per month. Citizen Tv Employee Salaries.
