Former Prime Minister the late Raila Odinga was one of the most influential politicians in the country. The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader doubled up as a businessman with multiple investments across various sectors.

Besides fortunes from politics, his family has heavily invested in real estate and the energy sector. The family also reportedly owns Lennox Development, Duma Investments, Newspoint, Adopo Capital, Kango Enterprises, and Spectre International.

The Odinga’s also have directorial and shareholding in companies such as Jahazi Development, Pan African Petroleum, Creative Hub, Wutho Holdings, and Be Energy.

Below are some of the multi-million properties associated with Raila Odinga:

East African Spectre

In December 2021, Raila revealed that he sold a German car he once owned to raise Sh12,000, which he used to start the East Africa Spectre.

The gas cylinder manufacturing plant claims to be the top producer and verifier of LPG cylinders in East and Central Africa and is valued at over Sh500 million.

In summary, the gas industry in Kenya has attracted significant investment from local billionaires, contributing to the growth of the country’s energy sector.

Spectre International Ltd

Although riddled in debts and controversy, the company deals with oils and molasses. According to Business Daily, the company is part of the flagship business owned by Raila. It has, however, been mired in debts. In December 2017, over 166 employees of Spectre International Ltd were declared redundant.

In January 2018, their contracts were terminated prematurely without any payment forcing them to sue the company.

Pan African Petroleum Company

As the name suggests, the company deals with petroleum products with a turnover of over Sh500 million.

Expensive Homes

Raila reportedly owned several multimillion homes in Nairobi, Mombasa and Kisumu. His palatial home on Riat Hills in Kisumu County is said to be worth approximately Sh1 billion. The 10-bedroom residence features Jacuzzis, a humongous helipad, conference halls, a theatre and state-of-the-art kitchens.

The former Prime Minister also owns a holiday home in Nyali, Mombasa, and in Runda and Karen, Nairobi. Before his death, he lived in his main residence in Karen with his family.

Choppers

As one of the most affluent politicians, Raila allegedly owned three choppers mostly used during political campaigns.
