Since 2013, securing a seat at any County Assembly has been akin to winning lottery. This is because the formerly despised councilor’s seat is now a powerful seat that comes with a heavy dose of money and salary.
This would explaining the shock that has greeted many after revelations that a former Member of the Country Assembly is now hawking foodstuff in the streets.
Ms. Khadija Mohamed, is a former nominated Member Of The County Assembly in Lamu County. She secured her nomination in 2013 through the Jubilee party that was made up of the coalition of URP and TNA. the two parties were owned by Deputy President William Ruto and President Uhuru Kenyatta respectively.
However, after the 2017 elections, Ms. Khadija appears to have suffered a turn in fortune. Today, she works as a street hawker in Lamu where she sells food.

She says that she comfortable working for the community as a food vendor where she gets her money on a daily basis unlike her former position at the Lamu County Assembly.
The mother of four says that unlike her political career, she is now living a more fulfilling life. However, she admits that she has been ridiculed before over what people say is her financial destitution despite having been in a very lucrative political career.
