Interior Cabinet Secretary Professor Kithure Kindiki has revealed that 45,000 passports are ready for collection as the Immigration Department clears a backlog of 700,000 passports.
Speaking while touring Nyayo House in the company of Julius Bitok, the Principal Secretary for the State Department of Immigration and Citizen Services, Kindiki informed Kenyans who had made passport applications that they would be notified of the immediate procedure for collection.
“The Government has put in place measures for the expedition of the collection of the final batch of 45,000 passports which are now ready, and which constitute the last batch of the over 700,000 passports whose production was delayed,” CS Kindiki stated on Monday, May 6, 2024.

According to the CS, other documents whose issuance would be expedited include birth certificates and other identity documents.
Kindiki also interacted with the Kenyans who had visited the centre to apply or to collect their passports.
He reiterated the government’s plan to ensure the printing of 49,500 passports within 14 days, starting May 10th, 2024.
“ Review is ongoing of the Kenya Citizenship and Immigration Act and regulations there under, the Kenya Citizens and Foreign Nationals Management Service Act, the Security Laws (Amendment) Act, the Counter Trafficking in Persons Act, the Refugee Act, the Registration of Persons Act, the Births and Deaths Registration Act and other relevant laws to consolidate and actualise the reform agenda,” Kindiki said.
