Education Ministry Changes Midterm Dates for All Schools

The Ministry of Education has changed the midterm break for all schools to pave the way for the Kenya Secondary Schools Heads Association (KESSHA) National Conference.

Following the change, students will break for their second term’s mid-term from Tuesday, June 27, to Saturday, July 1, 2023. The second term mid-term was previously set to start from Thursday, June 29, to Sunday, July 2.

The change followed a petition by school heads under KESSHA, who argued that the initial dates coincided with the association’s 46th National Conference.

Education Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang urged school managers to adhere to the changes.

According to the ministry’s calendar for the 2023 academic year, the second term began on May 8, 2023, and will run until August 11, 2023. Students will then break for the holiday on August 12, 2023, for a period of two weeks up to August 27, 2023.

The third term will run for 9 weeks, from 28 August to 27 October, to pave the way for the national examinations. The term will not have a mid-term break. Students will break for a ten-week holiday from October 28, 2023, to January 8, 2024.

The Kenya Certificate of Primary Education- KCPE and the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment examinations will kick off on October 30.

In addition, Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education exams will commence on November 3, with the candidates expected to write their exams until November 24.

This will later pave the way for marking, which according to the released timetable, will commence on November 27 and run until December 15.
