Environment Cabinet Secretary Soipan Tuya has taken her estranged husband to the Children’s Court. CS Soipan Tuya is seeking Sh. 425,000 in child upkeep money from her estranged husband.
In court papers that have been filed at the Children’s Court in Nairobi, CS Tuya says that her husband has been treating their two children and their househelp with cruelty.
She further tells the court that they have been subjected to verbal and emotional abuse in the hands of her husband and that now she is seeking full custody of the children.
“Owing to his abusive and erratic nature, we have been living in mortal fear for our lives,” CS Soipan Tuya has told the court.
In the list of her demands, CS Tuya says that her husband should pay Sh. 225,000 which is 50 per cent of their children’s Sh. 450,000 school fees.
She also wants her estranged husband to pay Sh. 100,000 which is 50 per cent of the Sh. 200,000 children’s monthly entertainment needs.

In addition, she wants the husband to be compelled to pay Sh. 100,000 which is 50 per cent of Sh. 200,000 for their two children’s maintenance.
In the court documents, CS Soipan Tuya says that she and her husband had been living together from December 2013 to December 2020 when he left her home to go live with his other wife.
CS Tuya further says that although she served her husband with the court papers in July, he has failed to make a response amd has also failed to play his part in raising the children.
“Despite the plaint being served upon him on September 1 and acknowledgement of receipt, he has not filed nor served me with any documents nor entered an appearance to that effect,” she has said in court papers. “Since our split in October 2020, he has refused to pay any share of school fees for the children despite being able to meet the same.”
Tuya says that her husband has been expressing abusive and violent behavior towards her since year 2014.
“He committed untold physical, emotional and psychological harm on the children and me. He severely intimidated my domestic staff even sexually and physically threatening them on several occasions,” she says.
“In December last year, he insulted me in a text message denying paternity of the two minors, demanding for a DNA test to ascertain his biological connection to the children.”
