Customers of Kenya Power owe the firm Sh. 3.2 billion in unpaid bills.
This is according to Kenya Power’s managing director Ken Tarus.
He notes that the bigger amount in this outstanding bills’ debt is owed by large consumers who include government parastatals and commercial agencies. Mr. Tarus revealed this when he released the power firm’s financial results for the full year 217.
Kenya Power posted Sh. 9 billion pretax profit in their 2017 full year results a 9.7 percent decrease compared to the Sh. 12 billion in 2016 attributable to increase in transmissions and distribution costs by Sh. 4.7 billion and a decreased finance income.
The firm, which reported reduced pretax earnings in their 2017 full year results had early stated that they are open to negotiations with defaulting electricity consumers to settle their unpaid dues.
