DCI Recovers Sh2.3M, Expensive Drugs in Another City Raid

Detectives drawn from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have recovered Sh2.3 million in another raid in Nairobi, a few days after recovering over Sh13 million hidden in sacks in Ngara.

The money which was recovered at a house in Harambee estate Buruburu is suspected to be proceeds of drug trafficking due to a mixture of foreign and local currency.

“Also seized during the 6 am raid were wads of cash in Kenya shillings and foreign currency, believed to be proceeds from drug trafficking. The cash included $12,601 USD, €15 Euros, Sh509, 495, Tsh24,000, and 10,000 Angolan Kwanza,” DCI stated.

During the operation, detectives also recovered 18 pellets of narcotic drugs suspected to be cocaine. Two suspects, Curtis Muli and Teresa Achieng were arrested and are being held at Muthaiga police station for further investigation and preparation for arraignment.

“The search was extended to an adjacent house believed to be a stash house within the same area where 3 test tubes, a digital weighing machine, and an ID card belonging to Curtis Muli Mutuku were recovered. The approximate weight of the suspected drugs recovered is 0.244 grams.’’ DCI added.

The raid was conducted barely a week after the investigations body recovered over Sh13 million hidden in sacks following a multi-agency operation at Kariwa slums in Ngara.

During the operation, the officers also seized four cartons of rolling materials, 173 pieces of suspected blended bhang, and 42 cartons, each containing 200 pieces of cigarettes.

The primary suspect, a woman in her 50s, was arrested alongside three other minors aged between 16 and 17, who are believed to be part of the group.
