DCI: Venezuelans were employees of North Eastern politician

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has claimed that the three Venezuelans who were arrested in July with election materials were not employees of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission.

The DCI claims that the Venezuelans were instead workers of a politician from North Eastern.

The DCI further alleges that the computers that were confiscated from Salvador Javier, Jose Gregorio and Joel Gustavo had showed investigators that the three were among dozens of non-Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) staff who had extensive access to the agency’s servers.

The DCI claimed that this access had been granted through a company that is linked to the senior politician from North Eastern region.

The DCI however did not show if and, or how votes were hacked from the IEBC servers and allocated to Deputy President William Ruto.

This came as it emerged that Azimio la Umoja coalition had gained premission to use the DCI report on the three Venezuelans as part of their evidence at the Supreme Court.

The DCI, through the director of the anti-terrorism unit Joseph Kolum, said that the items included one TB external disc, one laptop, six flash disks, three mobile phones, one Tablet, one Simcard and one monitor.

The DCI alleged that the laptop and 1TB external disc were found with an IEBC database schematic diagram, IEBC network diagram, IEBC KIEMS kit, IEBC KIEMS kit deployment list, user name and passwords, local IP address configurations and virtual private network (VPN) settings.

“It was established that the flash disks had IEBC data related to what was recovered from the Laptop and ITB external hard disc,” the DCI cited. “The two other phones had call logs, family videos and documents all in the Spanish language.”

Raila to use DCI report on Venezuelans as ‘evidence’ at Supreme Court

The DCI further alleged that an iPhone 13 Max Pro that was recovered from Suarez had phone contacts/call logs of IEBC employees, service providers technical teams from; Safaricom, Telkom Kenya, Airtel Kenya and Thuraya.

Both Raila and Karua have been alleging that they lost the presidential election to Dr. William Ruto after their votes were stolen and handed to Dr. Ruto by foreigners.

Raila and Karua’s main allegation has been that foreigners hacked the IEBC platform and altered Form 34As in favour of Dr. Ruto.
