Didmus Barasa, wanted for murder, wins Kimilili MP seat

Didmus Barasa has been reelected as the Member of Parliament for Kimilili constituency.

The member of parliament is however unable to celebrate his victory. He is on the run after shooting and killing his main rival’s aide on Tuesday August 9, 2022.

The police suspect that Barasa crossed to Uganda where he is currently hiding. This, however, did not stop tallying of votes at his constituency.

Barasa was defending his seat on a UDA party ticket. He garnered 26,861 votes. His main rival Brian Khaemba came in second with 9,497 votes. Khaemba was contesting on a DAP-K party ticket.

Other contestants included Peter Makokha of ODM and Erastus Muchimudi of Jubilee.  All of the four candidates, who participated in the polls, did not show up during the vote-tallying exercise.
